Deuteronomy 4:9

"Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them."

This verse was revealed to me this past summer during a sermon, and the application I took from it at that time was that I should not allow myself to return home and easily forget all the awesome things I had seen God do while on project. But as I continue to reflect on this verse, it is stricking a deeper chord with me. I can't count how many times God has shown me something that I was truly humbled and happy to learn, and then soon after forgoten, returning to that previous state of sinfulness. In all these times I feel very convicted in the moment to rid myself of some sin in my life, but I fail to commit these things to my heart. Instead I let them slip away, maybe because of passivity, or because of greed/selfishness, or maybe I lacked the courage to let go of what I thought was best and to trust in the Lord's will. After reflecting on this for a while I wonder how many headaches I have given myself, I wonder what my life would be like if I wasn't so stubborn and forgetfull of God's lessons to me. I definitely need to take a lesson from this verse in times like these: do not forget the things you have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live! I sincerely hope that God can teach me how to better myself in this respect, because I am getting tired of running into the same walls again and again.
